Promise Neighborhoods consists of concerned community members and adolescents seeking to prevent and or eliminate drug, opioid, alcohol, and marijuana misuse in Prince George’s County Maryland southern county. The coalition sponsors community events that educate and informs all especially to substance misuse problems and its harms. Since its start in October 2014, Promise Neighborhoods Drug Free Coalition has brought together experts and youth to strategize and implement policies and programs aimed to yield solid solutions to alleviate challenges with teen alcohol, opioids, and marijuana abuse.
The leaders of the coalition have been trained by some of the best minds in coalition building and sustainability. Our coalition Youth Ambassadors are trained as leaders and advocates to assist their peers in preventing and or eliminating risky behaviors that may lead to substance misuse. The Ambassadors and their peers together plan and implement effective and engaging educational, and fun afterschool hours activities. In implementing these well-planned activities, over 136,000 youth are reached annually in partnership especially with Prince George’s County Substance Abuse Prevention Division. We will continue building partnerships with multiple organizations providing services to our youth especially garner assistance from other coalitions that are doing similar work throughout the nation.
